TERRA BELLA — Two teens were injured Sunday — one seriously — when the driver of ATV was hit by a tree branch.

The accident occurred at 5:50 p.m. on a private roadway in the area of Road 248 and Avenue 96.

Edgar Carbojal, 13, of Terra Bella, was driving the ATV east in an olive orchard at an unknown rate of speed when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the ATV and was hit by an olive branch, the California Highway Patrol reports.

Both Carbojal and his passenger, Rosa Gonzalez, 14, of Terra Bella, were thrown from the ATV.

Carbojal was flown to Kern Medical Center suffering from major injuries, CHP reports, while Gonzalez was taken by ambulance to Sierra View District Hospital.
